The Kitchen Transformation

From Nasty to.....
WE HAVE MARBLE COUNTERTOPS!
First, let me say this room was cramped! It is a very narrow galley kitchen and when we bought this property it also held the washer the dryer and the water heater! There is a little room off the kitchen that literally only had a corner pantry. Perfect space for the washer/dryer and the water heater, PERFECT.
My husband tore out the water heater closet at the other side of the stove in the first picture. Nasty is an understatement-rodent and roach infested kind of nasty. We used all of the cabinets that appeared to be from the 1950's-1960's they where solid wood and the uppers where 5 feet tall. The uppers on the stove side where used in the new laundry room. One set we used at the end of the sink cabinet without the doors for a spot for the microwave and open shelving for storage.
We did have a professional painter paint the interior of the house including the kitchen and the cabinets. I went with a gray on the bottom and white on the top with 3.5" brass T-bar hardware.
YES those countertops are MARBLE, my dream. One of my favorite things in this room, other than the MARBLE, is the fireclay apron front farmhouse sink, it is amazingly big, deep and dreamy. Our Kingston brass faucet is its jewelry!
Our carpenter custom built the vent hood from a rough, and I mean rough, drawing I did. He also installed all the tile throughout the house including the vent hood wall from counter to ceiling.
We moved the refrigerator to the area where the old water heater closet had been. We removed the cabinet drawer section to the right of the sink and put in a dishwasher. Under the old linoleum, original hard wood floors, not perfect, restored!
This Kitchen is wonderful to work in, I can literally cook at the stove, pivot and use the sink. It is pretty much a one cook kitchen which is fine with me "too many cooks in the kitchen" well, not in mine : )
